A Call for a New Resolution of Love

Yesterday was inauguration day. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining. Birds were singing. But it was not in any way an ordinary day. It was a new day in America and a new day in the world. But the questions yesterday (and today) remain the same: what will we do with this moment? Will we gloat? Will we check out? Will we retreat to our silos and our enclaves?

Or, will we breathe deep and recognize our power in this moment to renew and restore? Will we reflect on all that has been broken, and reach out hands to one another remembering that we are all human? That we lift together because we must live together. Will we resolve each day to start anew?

Will we risk giving love a chance?

Today — 1-21-21 — all around the country, people will pledge, as part of a People's Inauguration to do their part to promote a just society as we step into this new era. I am honored to have been asked to contribute some music to the Oregon celebration of the People’s Inauguration and decided to revisit a song I had recorded fourteen years ago. I am dedicating this new version to all of us who are setting about the work of renewing the promise that we have always held for this nation and ourselves. Here’s to a new Resolution of Love.

Yours in hope,

—Darrell
